A choice from a selection of paintings is being offered as a raffle prize by Landscape Impressionist, Ander Kase. Ander actually makes a decent living as an artist and loves doing what he does best. He has a commercial agent that represents him and once in a while, gets him commission gigs with corporate clients. Most of Ander's artwork are sold to private collectors.

During a previous, "Art at the Source" of Sonoma County event at the Blue Gum Farm Gallery, he was the top seller of art among well over 200 local artists. As one can see, Ander's art pretty much speak for themselves. There is no real need to promote the creations. They speak volumes to those that are moved by the scene depicted on the canvas. The art brings out emotions and engage viewers to interact with the painting. The viewers step a few inches away from the collection of colors and transport themselves to the location. Some have described Ander's work as "alluring you into the painting". "You want to step right into it." They are at once, classic and tranquil.

Art Challenge

I entered these pieces in a competition held by International Artist Magazine. The call was for "Lakes, Rivers and Seascapes". There was a cash prize, which is always a big incentive, but I primarily wanted my work out there in the international art world. Alas, the current issue did not include my name as "winner" nor "honorable mention" consideration. No worries. I entered the next call for entries, "Favorite Subjects". I will display the pieces in an upcoming post. In the mean time, let me know what you think of what you see here...

The Artist, Ander Kase

b. Santa Monica, California. This good-natured, native Californian has thought of being nothing other than an artist. As a child, he was encouraged and inspired by both his parents and Godfather, renowned Swedish sculptor, Ölle Adrin. A graduate of the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA), he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Design an subsequently, earned a second degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from the reputable and prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.

Always keeping his hands busy in all aspects of visual and constructive arts, Ander has defined his style and discipline in his paintings. The images are at once magical, tranquil and classic.

Making his home in the California countryside, he is surrounded by a vast array of motifs to paint. These images are a notable addition to the existing collections of vistas and views he has witnessed during his travels. Within his impressionistic landscapes, he strongly asserts the principal philosophy of his works.

Artist’s Statement:

"Throughout time, our environment has been subjected to a myriad of conditions. Humanity has been a major contributor to its transformation. As a consequence, Mother Nature has had to endure the changes bestowed upon her and can only maintain her beauty through preservation. It is my goal to preserve Nature in its most pristine state and to capture the well-defined scenes through my painting."

His current body of works pays homage to his greatest influences; Monet, Pissarro, and Sisley.

Ander currently resides in Northern California with his wife, Anni, an award-winning chef and business partner.

Artist Comments:

From a distance you can see a great mass of poplars. It is a scene that one would more likely see in the French countryside than in Northern California. Getting there one realizes the complexity of the arrangement of the poplars protecting the Kiwi Grove. The architecture of the standing natural wall serves as a windbreaker. I chose this vantage point to show the poplars and less of the kiwi. The autumn season provided the color. The time of day provided the light and long shadows of the poplars.

I got a notice regarding my 30 year high school reunion. I've yet to attend any of these "self-promoting", "gossip mongering", "clique-ish" forums. I choose to be part of the blogosphere instead.

This painting was created 31 years ago. It is part of my private collection. I was a year shy of my high school graduation. This piece hangs in the living room of my parents' home.

It is part of a series during my "cosmic" phase. I used gravity as the method to form the shapes and texture on the surface. Muslin was the best material to use to get the kind of results I was looking for. It was light and very forgiving.

Using warm and cool colors allowed the versatility of opposites to work simultaneously. I seldom go towards monochromatic schemes.

Artist's Palette . . .

At the end of each year, I clean my palette to prepare it for the upcoming New Year. Several years ago, I decided rather than trash the oil paints, I simply transfer the paint from the palette to a clean canvas. Through the year, each time I prepare my palette for a new project or begin a new series, I place the old paint onto the canvas. As the year progresses, and works are completed, the canvas develops a life of its own. By the completion of the year, I have created an abstract painting. It also becomes an archive of the color palette used throughout the year. To date, I have a total of 15 abstract palette paintings.

How many years have I been doing this? You do the math.
